Richard L. Osberg, III is a cum laude graduate of Huntington University, where he received his degree in Economics, and a graduate of Regent University, where he received his tax focused Juris Doctor degree.
For over a decade, Richard headed the estate planning department of a firm located in downtown Pittsburgh. He specializes in structuring comprehensive Will and Trust based estate plans, tailored to the unique financial and relational dynamics of his client families, and brings sensitivity and attentiveness to the sometimes uncomfortable conversations surrounding wealth and mortality. Not only does he strive to protect the assets his clients have worked to build, he also guides and encourages his clients to capture and preserve their legacies. If appropriate and desired, he facilitates and leads family meetings. The preparation of multiple generations for the transfer and receipt of wealth is vital to the success of an estate plan and the healthy and lasting relationships within a family. Upon the death of a loved one, Richard will continue to represent the family through the estate administration and trust settlement process.
In addition, Richard is experienced representing business entities, from formation to acquisition or family succession. He has extensive experience drafting and customizing trust documents, including revocable, irrevocable, self-settled, multi-state, dynastic, life insurance and asset protection trusts, and serves as Trustee where appropriate. With a focus on asset protection as well as tax planning and avoidance, trusts are versatile and useful tools.
Richard routinely engages in real estate transactions, works with charitable entities, prepares and implements tax strategies by working closely with financial advisors and accountants, and incorporates insurance into both corporate and personal planning.
As the son (and grandson) of a minister, Richard was born in Huntington, Indiana, and has lived in Indiana, Illinois and Virginia. He settled into the Pittsburgh area, where he met and married his wife Amanda in 2013, and is the proud parent of two rescued Beagle-Lab siblings. Richard is a certified member of the Institute for Preparing Heirs, a member of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, a member of the Board of Directors of Choices Pregnancy Services, a sponsor of economically deprived children through Compassion International, and a member, elder and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.
